Pwani Innovation Week 2018

WELCOME TO THE 1st PWANI INNOVATION WEEK

Swahilipot Hub convened a number of stakeholders and innovative minds to organize and execute the annual Pwani Innovation Week (PIW) to support and accelerate the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem in the coastal region. As part of the PIW, a strong start-up movement has emerged, backed by over 30 startup enablers in Kenya. The startup initiative became the center of engagement. Innovators creating solutions in various domains were invited to participate by building their portfolios with the tech community at PIW.

People at the coast have shown great innovation potential despite years of poor investment in the tech sector

The whole coastal region could step onto the global innovation platform if more resources are invested in the area, which was shown by the fact that the counties produced more outputs relative to levels of inputs and is way ahead of its county peers on many fronts within Kenya. A poor standard of education, low investment in research and uneven adoption of innovative processes, products and solutions by businesses have held back innovation in the coast for the past decade even as we struggle with the rest of the country in knowledge technology, and creative outputs. PIW is that platform that builds on creative assets by helping young members of the society attain success from their innovation.
